Central Greece (Στερεά Ελλάδα, Sterea Ellada - Continental Greece) is one of the areas in Greece that geographically refers to the mainland of the newly declared state of Greece after the liberation from Turkish slavery in the first half of the 19th century. It is also known by the old name "Rumeli". Geographically, Central Greece also includes Attica, which is an independent administrative district, and Aetolia-Acarnania, part of Western Greece. Administratively, the district includes 5 counties: Boeotia (Βοιωτία), Euboea (Εύβοια), Evrytania (Ευρυτανία), Phocis (Φωκίδα) and Phthioida (Φθιώτιδα).
