The agora is one of the symbols of the ancient Greek polises, of their democracy and spirit of life. The agora is the main square in the ancient city-states, located in the center of the city and has various functions - a market, for religious celebrations and political debates. The agora is the center of socio-political life, so it also serves for delivering speeches, for holding meetings of the ancient National Assembly and the people's courts.
The most popular and representative is the agora in the capital Athens, which has impressive dimensions - its length reaches 111 m and width - 98 m.
