The Numismatic Museum of Athens is located near Syntagma Square. The museum was founded in 1834 and exhibits important collections of various types of coins, medals and precious stones from Ancient Greece, Rome, Byzantium, the Orient, Medieval and Modern Europe, the United States and Modern Greece.
