The Royal (Norman) Palace at Palermo was begun in the ninth century by the Arabs for their emir, Al-Qassar. The building was completed by the Norman. During Spanish rule the Royal Palace was renovated, and since 1947 it has been the seat of the local parliament.

In the Royal Palace of Palermo the following are of interest: the Hall of Ruggero II; the Palatine Chapel in the courtyard of the palace; the Royal Apartments; the Pisana Tower, etc.
