Church of Madonna dell'Orto, Venice
The first church was built in 1350 in honor of St. Christopher, whose statue still stands at the entrance. In 1377 a statue of the Mother of God with miraculous properties was discovered in a neighboring vegetable garden. Since then the church has been called the Church of Madonna dell'Orto. The church has a large number of paintings by Tintoretto, who is buried here with his children. Here are two of the artist's masterpieces - "The Last Judgment" and "Adoration of the Golden Calf". In the Church of Madonna dell'Orto, the canvas "St. John the Baptist" by Chima de Conegliano is a must-see.
