The Certosa di Pavia is the most beautiful Cartesian monastery in Europe. It is intended as a tomb of the Visconti family, during the Middle Ages rulers of Milan. The Certosa di Pavia was built between 1396 and 1495. The decision was made by Gian Galeazzo Visconti, who spared no expense - the marble was supplied by Carrara from the Tuscan coast. The architect of the monastery is Antonio Amadeo to whom we owe the impressive facade. The Certosa di Pavia is no less impressive from the inside. The best decoration of the tomb of Gian Galeazzo Visconti, the monument to Lodovico Sforza and his wife Beatrice d'Este, the altar "St. Aurosius”, the old altar from the 15th century by Florentine masters.
