Ikaria and Fourni Islands, Greece
From a geographical point of view, Ikaria is just a narrow, small and windy island located between Samos and Mykonos, with rocky but fertile land and many vineyards, fruit and olive trees. Its relief is to blame for the fact that most of its southern coast is deserted, with steep cliffs, and several fishing villages with small beaches are boiling in the north and west. There is also the only real resort on the island of Ikar - Armenistis.
However, from a historical point of view, everything is different. This is not just an old Greek island. This is an island named after Icarus, and the island where the god of wine, Dionysus, was born. Legend has it that in order to say so the island, the contribution has the legendary Icarus. He fell exactly on the island of Icaria after an unsuccessful flight attempt-the sun melted the wax with which the feathers of the wings made by his father Daedalus were glued together. The god of wine Dionysus was also born on this island. Ikaria is a name that is also associated with other interesting details from the history of the country. Dissidents were expelled on the island for a long time, and left-wing political traditions are still preserved. The locals had a special position and lived in self-sufficiency. Oddly enough, Ikaria is very proud of its radioactive mineral springs, which are still functioning, although the most dangerous of them have already been sealed.
The island of Ikaria does not have a good business card due to its problematic past, relatively difficult access and lack of impressive architecture or natural beauty. For a long time, the tourist map of Europe did not accept it. Ikaria has one main port - Agios Kyrikos, which is not a special tourist attraction. In the village of Armenistis, everything is a little optimistic. It is located on the northern coast of the island, among the beautiful surroundings. The resort has two beautiful long beaches that are very good for windsurfing-something unusual for Greece. Ikaria is a very suitable place for walking, and maps with well-marked walking routes are available for this purpose.
A small archipelago can attract tourists only to its only island - Fourni. In his small town, the coastal taverns are impressive, offering excellent sea food and an active nightlife. The company owns a large fishing fleet and a busy shipyard. There are several pleasant, secluded beaches on the island of Fourni, which can be reached after a walk through beautiful places.
