Florina or Lerin is a Greek city in Aegean Macedonia. The city is the center of Nom Lerin and Dem Lerin in the administrative region of Western Macedonia, as well as the center of the Lerin Diocese of the Greek Orthodox Church. The town of Florina is located at the mouth of the deep valley of the river Sakuleva (Sakulevas) at the western end of the southernmost part of Pelagonia - the Lerin field at the foot of the mountains Pelister and Neredska.
Florina is located 13 km south of the border with the Republic of Macedonia. During excavations in 1997 on the hill with the church of St. Panteleimon, a settlement with an acropolis from the 4th century BC was discovered. During the Roman era, this settlement was destroyed and the city moved to where it is today. Florina has a rich history. The city has an Archaeological Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Gallery of Lerin Artists, Public Library "Vasiliki Pitoska" , the Folklore Museum, as well as the external center of the University of Western Macedonia.
