After the Old and New Pinakothek, a Pinakothek der Moderne was built in Munich, another charged with the task of symbolizing the permanence of art. The building of the Pinakothek der Moderne has a futuristic architecture by Stefan Braunfels, from a distance it resembles a glass parallelepiped, and up close you can see a very simple and clean facade. This art gallery, extending over an area of 12,000 square meters, is dedicated to works of art born and subordinated to the styles of the XX and XXI centuries, organized and arranged in collections from four areas: painting, graphics, architecture and design.
In the contemporary art rooms of the Pinakothek der Moderne, masterpieces by Oscar Kokoschka, Henri Matisse ("Still Life with Nutmeg"), Picasso, Salvador Dali, Juan Miró, Max Beckmann and others are exhibited. Paintings by artists from the "Blue Horseman" movement - Vasiliy Kadinski, Franz Marc, Paul Klee, August Macke - are also exhibited here.
The halls of the Pinakothek der Moderne, dedicated to design projects, are filled with incredibly attractive exhibits - compositions of bicycles and harps, clocks that look like mirrors, furniture of the future - chairs that hang in the air or bend like a newspaper, models of cars from glass, whimsically shaped lanterns and luminescent light.
In the section with architectural achievements, there are masterpieces and models of some of the most prominent contemporary architects. The Pinakothek der Moderne also has a rich collection of contemporary photography – over 30,000 photos are on display.
