Dinkelsbühl is one of three particularly striking historic towns on the Romantic Road route after Rothenburg and Nördlingen. Dinkelsbühl is still surrounded by old medieval walls and towers and, together with its impressive half-timbered houses, it is one of the best preserved medieval town complexes in Germany.

A fun event of the town is the celebration of its rescue from Swedish devastation during the 30 Years War. According to legend, children went to the Swedish general to beg him for mercy. One of the children resembled his deceased son, and the general gave up on attacking Dinkelsbühl. And in the beautiful church of St. St. George's, the pulpit, the dome, and the crucifix on the high altar are worth seeing. The view from the top of the church tower is spectacular.
