Schwangau, Germany

Schwangau is only 4 km from the last town on the Romantic Road, Füssen, and the village of the world-famous royal castles of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein, visited by over a million visitors a year. They can be reached by horse-drawn carriage or shuttle bus. But some may opt for the romantic route via the Pelat Gorge and the Marienbrücke Bridge and enjoy the fantastic view from 90 metres up. The Marienbrücke is a footbridge named after Queen Mary and built over the Pelat Waterfall in 1866. Reconstructed and operational since 2016, the fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle can also be viewed from it.
In addition, there is a 120-kilometre hiking trail around Schwangau, which will take you to the royal hunting lodge Bleckenau and also to Tegelbergbach with a 2nd-century Roman bath preserved to this day and the four lifts and launching pad for hang gliders and paragliders.
