Steingaden, Germany

Steingaden (Steingaden) is a famous resort, which, in addition to its beautiful nature, also has the remarkable Wiskirche-pilgrimage church with the patron Saint Joseph. The foundation of the church was in 1739 in honor of the statue of the scourging Savior. According to legend, the statue ended up on the farm of Maria Laurie, who noticed tears in her eyes.
Already in the following year, the pilgrimages to the statue increased and it was necessary to build a small chapel. Later, the Rococo church was also founded by Father Magnus Straub and Lucas Schweiger at Steingaden Monastery in Upper Bavaria. The rich altar is the work of the artist Balthazar Augustin Albrecht; the four figures of the great theologians of the West are by the sculptor Anton Sturm; the flat ceiling is painted with extraordinary frescoes; the place for the organ is impressive, and listening to an organ performance in the temple is an exciting experience.
Each of the seven church bells has its purpose: Anna's bell or Angel's bell - 6 a.m., 12 p.m., 6 p.m.; the small bell of death is evening; the Trinity bell recalls the hour of Christ's death; all bells ring only on great occasions and holidays. The Pilgrimage Church has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985 and more than 1 million people visit the church every year.
