Monument Valley is an area of imposing stone formations formed in the Colorado Plateau by the erosive action of rivers over millions of years. Monument Valley is located on the border between the states of Utah and Arizona. These rock masses rise 300 meters above the desert terrain and are marked by brown, red and gray layers. They have been filmed in many movies. The most famous of the monument rocks are: the East Mitten, the West Mitten, John Ford's Observatory, the Thumb, the Three Sisters and the Ear of the Wind.

Monument Valley is home to the Navajo Indian tribe and is sacred to them. The valley is best explored with a guide from the tribe. The colorful wilderness all around makes many visitors speechless with surprise over the majestic beauty here.
