Petrified Forest in Arizona was designated a national monument by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906. The natural phenomenon is the remnants of a 225-million-year-old forest where dinosaurs, carnivorous amphibians, and large reptiles lived. The fossilized remains of some of them have been discovered here. In some places, layers of fossils 92 metres thick are exposed. The Rainbow Forest Museum has assembled a fantastic collection of fossils, including dinosaur fossils.
