Via Giuseppe Garibaldi Street, Genoa
The old name of the street was Strada Nova, but now it is named after Giuseppe Garibaldi, who had great military merits for the unification of Italy. Via Giuseppe Garibaldi is a street in Genoa which often is described as the most beautiful street in all of Italy. Via Giuseppe Garibaldi Street was designed and built between 1551 and 1558 for the recently wealthy merchants who did not want to live in the old medieval neighborhoods. Many castles can be seen on it, more amazing than each other:
- Palazzo Cambiaso;
- Palazzo Carrera - Cataldi;
- Genoa Parody;
- Palazzo Doria;
- Palazzo Podesta;
- The White Castle;
- The Red Castle;
- Spinola Castle and others.
Today, many of the castles on Via Giuseppe Garibaldi Street have been turned into shops and offices, but the facades, fountains and frescoes remain majestic.
