This is the most beautiful early Christian basilica in Rome, built in 420. The view is captivated by the magnificent ceiling covered with a mosaic made by Jacopo Toriti. The Basilica of Saint Mary Major is considered the culmination of the medieval mosaic tradition in Rome. It is interesting to see the Sistine Chapel built by Dominico Fountain for Pope Sixtus V. On the other side is the Chapel of Paul commissioned by Pope Paul V and Clement VIII.
