Mammoth Cave, Kentucky (USA)
Mammoth Cave is part of a Mammoth Cave National Park located in Green River Valley, Kentucky. The park was established in 1941 to preserve the vast cave labyrinth below its surface. The site was designated a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 1981 and an International Biosphere Reserve in 1990.
Mammoth Cave is the longest cave system in the world. Here there are colourful speleothems that look like they have been gilded, and snow-white flowers seem to have bloomed from the walls. Of the interesting animals, blind fish and cave shrimps are found here, living in the underground waters.
