Nestled in the heart of Bavaria, near the famous winter resort of Germis-Partenkirchen, just five kilometres from the Austrian border, the mountain town of Mittenwald is a German resort with over 700 years of European and world renown. The resort's appeal lies behind some of the steepest pistes in Germany. In addition to its great winter sports conditions, Mittenwald is gaining fame for its famous violin making and so-called "Air Paintings" - artistic canvases painted on the walls of the houses. The town has a unique look thanks to each painted house. Seeing this, Goethe remained fascinated by the beauty of the painting. Starting with the winter sports options, we must describe the slopes of Mittenwald. They are characterized by altitudes from 2250 m to 945 m and a total length of 22 km. This altitude guarantees quality snow cover throughout the winter season. Mittenwald is popular for the vertical drop of its slopes, the maximum being 1340 m. The steepest piste in Germany is located in the resort area of Mittenwald and has a vertical drop of 1311 m. The resort is "most friendly" to intermediate skiers, for whom 7 slopes are open. Beginners can enjoy the variety that the 6 slopes have to offer and experts can enjoy the two slopes in this resort.

Snowboard fans are not forgotten in Mittenwald. A special snowboard park is in operation for them. But they will be most satisfied with their experience on the untreated slopes of the resort.

With skiing and snowboarding, the variety among sports and entertainment in Mittenwald does not end. The winter resort offers opportunities for paragliding and winter trekking, indoor swimming pools and gyms. A must-visit is the museum dedicated to violin making, as well as the workshops where this instrument, which makes enchanting sounds, is made.
