The Wet Tropics of Queensland, Australia

The Wet Tropics of Queensland in Australia are a vast tropical region designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Unique plants are found here that have existed since the time of the ancient continent of Gondwana. The scenery here is very beautiful with its sharp peaks, sandy beaches, spectacular gorges, dense wet forests and Australia's highest waterfall, Walaman, near Trebon.
There are also coastal mangroves. There's lots of interesting wildlife in this protected area - cassowaries and tree kangaroos, flightless birds and yellow-bellied possums, even saltwater crocodiles. It will be interesting to swim in one of the pools at Mosman Gorge. Best time to visit is in spring and summer. The nearest town is Kerks.
