The St Mark's Campanile is a bell tower of St. Mark's Square and is the famous brick bell tower in Venice, 100 meters high plus the angel. The bell tower of Venice stood here for 1000 years before collapsing suddenly in 1912. It was immediately rebuilt. In the 15th century, clergy accused of immoral behavior were locked in wooden cages and lowered from the tower. On a clear day from the tower there is a wonderful view of the Lido, the lagoon and by land all the way to the Alps.
