In Catalonia, on the lands of Spain, there is a place where everything seems to be an illusion. The eerie volcanic area remembers the last eruption more than 10,000 years ago, but not only that. As a result of the volcanic activity and the force of nature, a fairyland is born. This is 120 square kilometers. valleys, plains, rivers and craters of the Olot volcanoes.
These lands today are irrigated fertile land and pastures. Volcanic peaks reveal views of the craters of Olot, and the rocky walls of the river valleys reveal amazing layers that are the product of lava flows. 1985 is the year when Garrucha was declared a protected natural park.
Among its regular animal inhabitants are squirrel, wild cat, lynx, badger, boar, otter, as well as about 140 species of feathered inhabitants. In addition to the creation of nature, the human footprint is also visible - the built facilities, which also from your side turn Garrucha into a wonderful place for recreation and relaxation.
The starting point of a walk around Garocha is the town of Olot. It is located between the beech forests of Jorda and the volcanoes Croscat and Santa Margarita. In the crater of the latter there is a picturesque hermit's hut. Several villages are nestled in Garrucha's lands. Perched picturesquely on a geometric work of nature - walls of basalt prisms and layers, and with the river Fluvia passing through its foot, Castelfolit de la Roca says "hello" to its visitors. Impressive, but with its medieval appearance, Romanesque bridge and four churches, is Bellasu. Santa Pau enchants with its medieval cobbled streets and town square with Gothic arches, predisposing to a pleasant and relaxing walk.
