Iscar Castle, Spain
Iscar Castle is located in the small Spanish village with the same name, which is located in the province of Valladolid. The Iscar Castle, which in the past was fortress with key role, stands high on a hill, commanding a pleasant view of the village below and the surrounding country. The first Iscar fortress, which today is on the place of today's Iskar Castle, was built by the Moors. It is first mentioned in an Arab chronicle, which describes the castle as a important Moorish base for an attack on the Christians and their territory in 939.
In the 11th century, the Iscar Castle was owned by a nobleman from the province of Burgos - Alvar de Minaya, who was a lieutenant in the army. It is suggested that he most likely leveled the area and reconstructed the pre-existing Iskar fortress. Today, the hike to Iskar Castle is a very adventurous tourist walk. Despite the difficult trek, when you reach the hill where the original Moorish fortress was built, the view from Iskar Castle Hill will be etched in your memory forever.
