Ibiza is an island in the Mediterranean, part of the Balearic Islands, a possession of Spain. The main cities are Ibiza, Santa Eulalia del Rio and San Antonio Abad. Ibiza and the island of Formentera form the so-called Pythian Islands. The official Catalan name of the island is Evisa, but the Castilian name Ibiza was still needed. Ibiza is a variety for all lovers of adventure and dynamism. Ibiza was originally settled in 654 BC by the Phoenicians, and later due to the invasion of the Carthaginians the territory became part of the possessions of Carthage. They are the founders of the capital Ibiza, creating the Las Salinas salt mines, from which they extracted their most important commercial product - salt.
In the IV - III century BC ties with the neighboring island of Mallorca developed, and Ibiza later came under the rule of the Roman Empire, the Visigoths and the Moors. The Muslim faith spread through the lands of Ibiza, but in 1235 King James I of Aragon put an end to it and established an autonomous government on the island. In 1715, however, King Philip V of Spain abolished local independence and banned the Catalan language. In 1970 came democracy, which gave the current autonomous status of Ibiza.
Ibiza is the island of nightlife and music festivals, it simply attracts like a magnet all those for whom life begins with the fall of night. Ibiza is a paradise for young and restless spirits and for settled and happy families. It is an exotic holiday destination declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This saves many natural sites from commercialization, such as the "Finger of God" in the Gulf of Beniras, for example.
Like most southern islands, there are amazing golden beaches bathing in turquoise blue waters. But the charm of Ibiza lies in the steep white cliffs rising along the coast and jutting into the sea, which are probably the reason for his nickname - White Island. Although Ibiza is known as the cradle of electronic music, as well as a stage for many famous artists and DJs - and the genre, due to the desire of the local government to create tourism with more cultural and family orientation, more and more visitors flock to the island.
Ibiza is a very popular tourist destination because of the legendary stormy nightlife, centered in two places - around the cities of Ibiza and San Antonio. Returning to San Antonio, one should not miss the egg-shaped monument erected in the 1990s, in the center of which is a model of Christopher Columbus' ship, Santa Maria. The monument, called "The Egg", was erected to connect the city with the origins of the great traveler, firmly behind his thesis, there are no impossible things.
The famous Es Vedra rock is among the riches of natural landmarks, cut off a few kilometers into the sea. It is shrouded in mysticism because there are countless legends about it - some say it was home to mermaids, others say it was the sacred island of the Phoenician goddess of fertility Tanit, who became the patron saint of Ibiza and sacrifices were made there in her honor. and others believe that Es Vedra is part of the sunken Atlantis. And that's not the end of it - It is also believed that the material for the construction of the Egyptian pyramids was taken from Es Vedra, and every wish you made while stepping on these lands came true.
It seems that Ibiza has an inexhaustible source of impressive masterpieces of nature and man, and this may be true. The caves that preserve ancient remains and evidence of prehistoric life, the Phoenician tomb of the Necropolis del Puig des Molins, as well as the numerous churches and cathedrals that can be found in every town in Ibiza, are indisputable proof of this.
