El Hierro, Spain

The island of El Hierro is Spanish island  which is the westernmost island of the Canary Islands archipelago. With its topography resembling an overturned bulge, El Hierro island has inspired countless legends. It was considered the end of the world due to its location in the archipelago and was used as the geographic prime meridian until Greenwich was adopted.
El Hierro is a volcanic island like the others, but it is extremely attractive and beautiful with its greenery. El Hierro island has a unique nature, but it is quite poor in terms of animal life. This El Hierro island is the youngest – only 1.2 million years old, but at the same time its volcano is among the oldest of the islands.
The capital of El Hierro, Valvedere, and the town of Tamduste, with its natural lava basin, are the places that attract tourists. Also of interest is the 25-kilometer crescent-shaped slope, as well as the picturesque hills of Mount Malpaso. The name of the El Hierro island comes from the language of the indigenous people of the Guanchi Islands and was called Yero or Esero. It was later replaced by the Castilian word El Hierro (translated forge).
