Donauwörth, Germany

Donauwörth, with about 19 thousand inhabitants, is situated near the full-flowing Danube, at the foot of the Franconian Alba in a beautiful natural park and is part of the Romantic Road. The picturesque landscape with the characteristic Gothic houses in different colours, especially along the main street Reichstrasse, the renovated town hall with the installed carillon playing folk songs every day, the church "Liebfrauenmünster" with its five church bells - all this predisposes to a pleasant walk around the town.
The Church of "St. Cross" is a landmark of the town with its impressive architecture. The city wall and the only surviving gate with the tower, where the Donauwörth Historical Museum is located, are worth a look. The interesting biennial Children's Day event is very colourful and beautiful as 1,000 schoolchildren in historical dress recreate the history of the town.
