Castelvecchio Castle in Verona was built by the Scaligeri family, who ruled Verona in the Middle Ages. Construction began in 1354 and was completed in 1376. It now houses the largest art collection in Verona. The gallery in Castelvecchio has 27 halls and was opened in 1925. The most famous works are by Pisanello, Criveli, Mantegna, Veronese and two paintings with the Virgin of Giovanni Bellini.
