The Cathedral of St. Sophia, Novgorod

Novgorod is not just a Russian city. It is a religious gem. It is dotted with churches and monasteries. In this line of thought, one of its landmarks is a typical example of the religious architecture of the former Russian capital - the Cathedral of St. Sophia.
It is simply impossible not to admire the beauty of the Russian Cathedral of St. Sophia. It is one of the earliest stone buildings in Russia. The large monolithic building of the Cathedral of St. Sophia stands out too little. Its architecture is woven with Puritan walls with flat and bare supports, and small and narrow windows are included to protect it from the stinging cold. On the outer walls of the Cathedral of St. Sophia stand out protruding pilasters. The wall is made of large individual blocks of limestone, welded with pink mortar of lime and broken bricks. Against the background of this wall, the unusual shape of the bell tower stands out very well and the strict beauty of the exterior stands out.
To enter the Cathedral of St. Sophia in the Russian city of Novgorod, you go through the northern gates, despite the fact that the religious church has a main gate, which, however, opens only on special occasions. These northern doors guard two unusual bronze doors depicting the masters whose work they are. The portal of the Cathedral of St. Sophia is famous for the frescoes that are located on its inner wall. There are still iconostasis, and in this church is the famous "Holy Virgin Sign".
