The Zugspitze is the highest German mountain, with the highest peak being the Zugspitze at 2,962 m. The Zugspitze is also the highest peak in Germany. It is located in the Bavarian Alps, on the Austrian-German border - in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in the province of Bavaria.
This peak, which offers breathtaking views, can be easily climbed either by cog railway or by cable car that departs from Eibsee. The adventure is definitely worth it, if only to have a drink at the restaurant with a great view "Panorama Bistro". The first documented ascent of the summit was made by a group led by Lieutenant Josef Naus on August 27, 1820.
Zugspitze is among the most popular areas for skiers, along with the Garmisch Classic. There are a total of 38 tracks - 7 "blue" (for beginner skiers), 27 "red" (for advanced skiers) and 4 "black" (for masters). One of the "black" is the popular "Kandahar" track, where the downhill and super-giant slalom starts of the Ski World Cup are held. It is the descent of "Kandahar" that is considered one of the biggest tests for the stars in alpine skiing.
Ambitious sports enthusiasts, sun worshipers, romantics or nature lovers - Zugspitze has something to suit every taste.
