Harz is a mountain range whose length of 110 kilometers is locked between the town of Seesen to the northwest to Eisleben to the east. It is 35 km wide and covers an area of 2226 square km. Harz is divided into two parts - Upper Harz to the northwest, which reaches up to 800 m in height, with the exception Agriculture. The dividing line between Upper and Lower Harz follows approximately the line from Ilsenburg to Bad Lauterberg, which is approximately divided by the catchments of the Wezer (Upper Harz) and Elba (Down Harz).
Ever since ancient times, the Harz region has been characterized as an area with many straits storage. This helped in the past to form natural reservoirs. The largest rivers in Harz are Inner, Oker and Bode in the northern part, the Vipper flows to the east and the Oder River to the south.
Harz Harz National Park is a great landmark. It is located in the western part of the mountain, on the territory of the Federal Provinces Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. The Harz Park is part of the Natura 2000 network of the European Union.
Today's Park was created on January 1, 2006 as a result of the merger of two smaller ones. These are the grounds in 1994 Harz National Park in Lower Saxony and the 1990 Harz National Park in Saxony-Anhalt. The Harz Park is home to very rare animals such as bear, black stork, falcon wanderer, European wild cat and especially EUROAZIAN RIS. As the last lynx in Mount Harz was seen in 1818, in 1999 the lynx was reintroduced in the park. An attempt has been made to return the dagger, but so far still unsuccessful.
