Farafra or Al-Farafra is the smallest oasis in Egypt. It is located in the western part of the country, in the Libyan desert. The population of about 4-5 thousand people is concentrated in the only village in the oasis of Farfara - Qasr al-Farafra. Farafra Oasis is a popular local tourist destination, famous for its tranquility and beautiful views.
The history of the Farfara oasis dates back to the time of the pharaohs. Unfortunately, monuments preserved to this day have not been preserved from this period. What tells of life in those years are the few remaining inscriptions on a stele located in the Nile Valley. For a long time there was no road to this place, which greatly contributed to the preservation of the uniqueness and original culture of the Farafra oasis.
Qasr al-Farafra has housed gardens with dates, olives and apricots, as well as traditional old houses for the oasis. At first glance, they frighten with their appearance - one-story buildings without windows.
What can be considered a variety when visiting the Farafra oasis is a visit to the museum dedicated to the most famous person in these places. This is the artist Bard Abdel Mohni, who has variegated the Bard Museum with his samples of rural life. The museum is a spacious fantastic house of colorful bricks. The springs near Bir Sta should also not be overlooked, as they are considered to be the other landmark of the Farafra oasis.
