Egypt is located in the northern part of Northeastern Africa. Its territory also includes the Sinai Peninsula. Egypt ha a wide outlet on the Mediteranean and the Red Sea, connected via the Suez canal. It was excavated during the period 1859-1869 and connects Europe with the Far East and shortens the long ocean route going round Africa from South.
The larger part of Egypt’s area is occupied by the arid deserts of Eastern Sahara, separated by the Nile.
The climate here is hot and arid. Only on the Sinai Peninsula the mountains are often covered with snow. In the Egyptian deserts can be seen some of the largest day and night temperature amplitude on Earth. At lunch time it can get 50 degrees, and after sunset the air temperature abruptly drops down more than 37 degrees.
The Nile is the longest river in the world. Since ancient times the life of the people here depends on the Nile. During overflow times the waters inundated and enriched the soil in the Nile plain with minerals. People here grow high quality cotton, maize, wheat, sugar cane, etc.
Egypt ranks 4th among the largest manufacturers of oil and natural gas in Africa, after Nigeria, Algeria and Libya.
Egypt has the oldest tourist tradition in the world. As early as 2000 years ago Greeks and Romans came here to see the ancient tombs and temples.
The pyramids of the Pharaohs Cheops, Chephren and Menkaure are some of the Seven Wonders of the World and are the most imposing monument of the ancient Egyptian civilisation that has been preserved to date. They are located in the sands of the desert near Cairo. The imposing remains of the ancient Egyptian civilisation stir the imagination and attract in the country millions of tourists from all over the world.
