Logroño, Spain

Logroño is a town in northern Spain, located on the river Ebro. It is known as the capital of the autonomous region of La Rioja, formerly known as the Province of Logroño. The city is the center of La Rioja's wine trade, and also produces wood, metal and textiles.
Logroño is an old settlement ruled by Romans and Celts. Since the 10th century, Logroño's rule has been disputed between the kings of Navarre and those of Castile, but the region was eventually drawn to the territories of Castile. In 1095, Alfonso VI of Castile presented the Charter of Rights in Logroño, which served as a model for other Spanish cities. In 1609 and 1610, Logroño became the seat of the Basque Witches' Court as part of the Spanish Inquisition.
Today, Logroño is not famous as a picturesque and historic city, but there are things that compensate for this and they are its dynamic life and hospitality. The city boasts an enticing cityscape and plenty of places for walks and leisure. Its pedestrian streets meander through the old part of the city, and the modern boulevard Gran Via draws the line between past and present, hovering in Logroño. Going down this boulevard leads to the oldest church in the city - Santiago de Real, and the Cathedral of Santa Maria de le Redonda adjoins it just a few steps away, characterized by its baroque twin towers. The church with 45 meters of pyramidal spire Santa Maria del Palacio is not inferior to it.
Logroño has many squares and parks, giving it an unusual look. Located in the financial center next to the monument to General Espartero is the Paseo del Principe de Vergara. The main square is located on the Alley of Peace and is a large square full of history. In the past he has witnessed numerous public acts, festivals, exhibitions, concerts, and the last few years has been a stage on which religious events in this spirit take place on Christmas Day.
Near the bus station of Logroño is the "lungs" of the city and this is Carmen Park - one of the most beautiful places in the city with its great diversity of flora and fauna. Logroño has its holidays, but one of them is special because of the wine. This is the holiday of the grape harvest, held in the second half of September and decorated with processions, folklore performances and bullfights.
