As far back as 1057, the foundations of the Alcazaba fortress were laid. And that is when the beginning of what everyone now calls Málaga begins. It was ruled by the Moors until the middle of the fifteenth century, after which it became one of the main craft and trade centers in the entire Iberian Peninsula.
Perfectly perched in the center of the Costa de Sol, the city resembles a work of art with its Mediterranean beaches and cultural and historical monuments, skillfully garnished with a rich history and authentic atmosphere.
Everyone would be wondering from which point to start the tour of Malaga, but everyone would agree that it would be best from Mount Gibralfaro. And this is no accident. There is nothing more inspiring and attractive than the amazing panoramic view of the old town and the Gulf of Malaga. Even Africa can be seen from this hill in clear weather.
But the most important thing here is what is revealed by the Alcazaba and the Moorish palace. Using the ruins of a Roman theater, a unique square with a lake, gardens and statues has been formed here today, and the appearance of the former royal palace has been changed to an archeological museum.
San Agustin Street leads to another historical monument, the 16th-century Buena Vista Palace, which now houses the Museum of Fine Arts. From here begins the beginning of the Old Town. In 1881, in one of the houses on the Plaza del Mercedes, one of the greatest men of the 20th century - Pablo Picasso, wept. In his honor, a house-museum was opened in 2004 - an archive of his creative and personal life, made an ideal place to present the various stages in the creative life of Picasso, which makes it one of the main attractions of Malaga.
It is located in the beautifully restored Renaissance house Palacio de Buenavista, painted with great precision and love by local masters. The collection of 155 of his unique works was collected thanks to his son Christine Ruiz Picasso and his grandson Bernard, and 89 long-term works were added to it. The arrangement of his paintings is based on the chronology of my work, starting with "Woman with a Mantle" from 1894 to "Man, Woman and Child" from 1972.
Whether due to the need for rest or just the desire to see the beauty of tropical and subtropical trees and plants from around the world, in the center of Malaga can visit the botanical garden Paseo del Parke, and feel the coolness of the fountain Three Graces. A stone's throw from this park are the town hall and the city theater "Cervantes".
This is the most famous theater in Malaga, which burned to the ground in 1870, but has been completely restored to be considered today one of the most famous stages in Spain. It was here that he began the career of another son of Malaga - Antonio Banderas, and it was he who chose to present his film "The Way of the English". Another landmark of the city is the Bullring, built in 1874, used for bullfighting, but also for concerts.
Malaga is not only a cultural and historical center, living in the shadow of its famous architectural heritage. The city also has a modern look, as its cityscape has been changed by shopping malls, shops, restaurants and bars. These are the places that the people of Malaga have chosen for their public life.
The modern city of Malaga is proud of its Caye Larios shopping center, considered the local equivalent of London's Bond Street. It is surrounded by small attractive streets and squares filled with the charm of the historic center of Malaga, as well as the majestic Cathedral. Its Renaissance building with a baroque façade combines architectural styles from the 16th to the 18th century. The cathedral was built on a mosque for about 200 years, but by bishop's decision the construction was stopped and the money was used to support the American Revolutionary War. As a result, its southern tower remains unfinished, hence its name One-Handed.
A walk through the Mediterranean city of Malaga can end at the port, where you can also see the mark of history. With the landing of the Phoenicians 3000 years ago, it became one of the largest centers for salting fish, hence the name of the city of Malacca - Malaga. Enjoying a glass of Andalusian wine and admiring the sea and the bay, from the terraces of the coastal restaurants along with the sea and overseas ships here you can see the most beautiful and expensive yachts in the world.
There is more to be said for Malaga and that is its class and concentration in golf courses. Theme parks have been built, including water attractions, go-karts, safari parks and many gardens.
Described in a few lines, but enough to attract attention, Malaga can be said to be a city full of charm, attractive and cosmopolitan, perched on a beautiful bay in Andalusia. Malaga is a city blessed by the sun, richly lit and dotted with boulevards and tall palm trees, with a bustling and lively nightlife. Malaga is a city rich in historical monuments and monumental buildings, bars and restaurants with Andalusian wine and wonderful seafood.
