From ancient times the lands of Alexandria have served as an escape from the summer heat. For this reason, many villas and palaces are built as summer residences in this city. Following this idea, one of the rulers of Egypt - Abbas Hilmi II, built the Montazah Palace as his summer residence. Ideas for the design of the palace were borrowed from both the Ottoman Empire and Florence in Italy.
And the result is impressive. Built in a low valley east of Alexandria and rising above the beach, the Montazah Palace consists several buildings, the most important of them are Al-Haramlek and Al-Salamlek.
In general, the building is closed to visitors, but for a minimal entrance fee, access to the surrounding gardens and the beach is provided. Perched on a cliff, the Montazah Palace is built in Moorish style with distinct Florentine elements.
Behind the fences of the palace is a well-kept garden, densely planted with pines and palm trees, as well as a large number of flower beds. A beautiful sandy bay with a bridge connecting the coast with an island in the sea is probably the most beautiful place to walk in all of Alexandria.
Among the beautiful Phoenician palm trees is another palace where Farouk's women lived. It is also a complete mix of styles, but still impressively beautiful.
