Mahmoud Said Museum, Alexandria
Mahmoud Said can be said to be one of the pioneers in the field of Egyptian contemporary art. In his honor, the Mahmoud Said Museum opened in Alexandria in 2000. The works exhibited in it are the artist's vision of art and his national feelings. Some of his works were donated to the Ministry of Culture. The Mahmoud Said Museum is housed in a beautiful Italian-style villa that was once home to the famous artist.
An interesting fact about the life of this famous person is that he is a judge and an artist only when he has free time. The main goal of Said, as well as other like-minded people, was to find a way to reproduce the national identity, as well as motifs from the Pharaonic culture and the Greco-Roman era.
Saeed's best works are on display in the Hall of Naked Charms. The paintings depict naked female bodies in golden shades of honey. Of great interest is the panorama representing the opening ceremony of the Suez Canal with Khedive Ismail and Empress Eugenie.
The restored building of the Mahmoud Said Museum unfolds ideas for the site to be an open university of Egyptian art with 54 canvases of Said and 115 works of Wanli brothers. It has an adjoining Museum of Contemporary Egyptian Art with a collection of over a hundred exhibits.
