Abu Sir is the place in Cairo that is known among Egyptologists, where important papyri were discovered at the end of the 19th century. It was in Abu Sir that a cemetery from the 6th century BC was discovered. Excavations lead to an entrance, behind which was found a burial chamber with well-preserved inscriptions and reliefs covering the walls, which reveal the owner - the priest-administrator of Pharaoh Yufaa.
Abu Sir is marked by three pyramids of kings and queens of the Fifth Dynasty. Their charm comes not from their appearance, but from their very location - they sit alone on a sand ridge. Abu Sir is among the places where the remains of a variety of tombs and temples are among the most interesting sights.
The only one worth seeing is the Pyramid of Sahure. Neferirkare Kakai inherited his brother Sahure after his death, and it was in the funerary temple of Neferirkare Kakai that such important papyri were found. Taken together and read, these papyri recreate the fascinating and rich panorama of the Abu Sir administration from 4,000 years ago.
