Gran Paradiso National Park, Italy
Gran Paradiso National Park was built in 1856 as a royal hunting reserve for Victor Emmanuel II. In 1920, Victor Emmanuel III donated it to the state, and three years later it was declared a national park. Today, the reserve covers an area of 70,000 ha in the Piedmont and Aosta Valley districts. On the territory of the park is the only all-Italian peak over 4000 meters - Grand Paradiso (4061 m).
Gran Paradiso National Park is a colorful picture of picturesque valleys, alpine meadows, high alpine wastelands and numerous waterfalls. The most interesting route to the Gran Paradiso National Park is through the Aosta Valley, where the road passes through many castles Bard Fortress, Castle of Ision, Religious Castle, Fenis Castle, Aimville Castle, fabulous landscapes and amazing views.
Apart from the landscapes in the Gran Paradiso National Park, the most interesting are the wild animals that roam free. The alpine ibex has been chosen as the coat of arms of the park. The largest resort village in Gran Paradiso National Park is the village of Kone, about half an hour from Aosta. Here it is suitable for overnight stays, holidays or to explore walking routes.
