The Cathedral in Spoleto is built in Romanesque style. On the same site there was another cathedral destroyed by the troops of Friedrich Barbarossa. The construction of the Cathedral of Spoleto began in 1198. The Cathedral preserves a cycle of frescoes by the Florentine Fra Filippo Lippi - "Scenes from the Life of the Virgin Mary", one of the most important frescoes in Umbria. Other treasures of Spoleto Cathedral include several paintings by Pinturicchio, one of two extant letters written by St. Francis, and the Cathedral's marble floor of beautiful patterns.
