Bell Tower of the Mangia, Siena
The Bell Tower of the Mangia in Siena was built 1325-1344 to a design by Lippo Memmi one of Siena's leading artists. It was built in response to the tall tower built in rival Florence. The view from the Campanile of Siena is magnificent especially towards the Piazza Campo where you can see the nine parts into which it is divided, representing each of the members of the Council of Nine.
