It is no lie to say that Amsterdam maintains some of the best museums in the world. One of them is breathtaking. The Van Gogh Museum is one of Amsterdam's many intriguing museums - a wonderful building at Paulus Potterstraat 7. This art museum, as its name suggests, is entirely dedicated to the work of the most famous Dutch artist - Vincent Van Gogh.

The Van Gogh Museum has the richest collection of canvases of the great artist – the exhibition contains over 200 works and 500 drawings. These include the earliest work from Van Gogh's Dutch period, Potato Eaters from 1885, several of his famous self-portraits, sunflower compositions, and works created in France in his late period, when Van Gogh was already struggling with madness. The Van Gogh Museum has albums of his sketches, sketches, letters, and is so impressive that it attracts the attention of even those who know Van Gogh only with "Sunflowers". Attached to the exhibit is a library dedicated to Van Gogh and a shop that sells quality reproductions of many of his canvases. The paintings of the Van Gogh Museum's exposition are located on the first floor, and on the upper floors are his drawings, paintings from the collection of his brother Theo, painted by like-minded artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec, Gauguin and Monet, as well as temporary exhibitions.

The main building of the Van Gogh Museum was extensively renovated after a new wing was built by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa, which opened in June 1999. The museum wing is constructed of gray stone and titanium steel.

The Van Gogh Museum is a space that is filled with Japanese and European sensibilities. Although the architecture of the building is slightly irritating, the bright, vivid colors and stunning landscapes of this hallucinatory genius leave a single imprint on the mind - the art. Van Gogh's troubled life is easily discernible, his sudden end not difficult to predict in some of his stormy canvases. Works by dozens of artists who influenced him or were influenced by him are also exhibited here.
