To the south of the Archaeological Museum is the Archiginnasio of Bologna, the palace of the papal legate. The palace was built quickly from 1562 to 1563 for Cardinal Borromeo. For centuries, the Archiginnasio of Bologna has been part of the University of Bologna. Here is the Anatomical Theater of the former Medical Faculty, where dissections of corpses were performed in front of students.
