Truro is not just another English city; it is the historical center of the mining industry in Cornwall where mining was the main activity since ancient times.

Truro was famous for being a stannary town – the place where the bulk copper and tin ore was broken into pieces and analyzed. The mining industry turned Truro into a city of rich businessmen and mine owners in 18th century which gave it the nickname ‘the London of Cornwall’.

Many beautiful Georgian architecture buildings were raised during this period and most of them are preserved to this day. Some of the best examples among them can be seen in Lemon Street and Walsingham Place. Truro officially received its city status by Queen Victoria in 1876. The building of the first post medieval Gothic Renaissance cathedral was started in Truro in 1880 and it was completed in 1900.

A city tour around Truro should include a visit at the oldest museum in Cornwall – the Royal Cornwall Museum, Lemon Quay (the piazza) and the old hall in the northern part of High Cross square where the tourist can buy and try traditional Cornish cakes.
