Chester

Chester is the main city of Cheshire County, located at the border between England and Wales. It is one of the English cities with best preserved old city walls. Chester lays north from River Dee and was founded by Roman soldiers in 79 BC. This old walled cathedral city is a true architectural joy for the eye. The main Chester Cathedral may not be among the largest in England, however its design is astonishing. It was built during the period 1250-1540 and the main material used for its construction was red limestone.
Chester is a remarkable city for its authentic houses from the Tudor and later Victorian eras located in Eastgate and Watergate streets.
Chester was an important Roman town and still keeps the largest amphitheater in England. It remained a major settlement during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and has much to show from all its prime periods. The most attractive part of this walled city is its collection of timber framed black and white Tudor buildings and their uniquely decorated faces.
Chester Rows is a famous commercial set of two-story buildings that has turned into a signature landmark of the city. Another beautiful building in the very heard of the Old town is Chester Grosvenor. It is owned by the Duke of Westminster and operates as a luxury hotel proud with its fine dining restaurant.
