Palace of Holyroodhouse

Palace of Holyroodhouse located in Edinburg, Scotland still carries its fame as an official royal residence and a former home of Queen Mary, Queen of Scots.
Holyrood Palace can be found at the east end of the Royal Mile in Edinburg which begins at the Edinburgh Castle. The Palace of Holyroodhouse is surrounded by the Holyrood Park and it’s mostly used for official events and government ceremonies these days, rather than a residence of the Royal Family.
The walls of an existing building from the middle of 19th century served for the construction of the splendid Royal Gallery in 2002. Its function is to be the home of the art pieces from the Royal Family private collection.
The Palace of Holyroodhouse has an adjacent abbey founded in 1128 by David I of Scotland after he had a vision of a deer with a bright crucifix between his antlers. One of the abbey’s buildings even turned into a preferred residence of the royal family instead of the Edinburgh Castle for a period of time.
King James VI and I, son of Queen Mary often stayed at Holyrood Palace for his holidays. Charles II of England contributed to the current looks of the Palace of Holyroodhouse. He took care of the restoration of the wonderful castle after a fire in the 70s of 17th century.
