Smoo Cave

Smoo Cave is located at the end of a small tidal gorge that carved the soft limestone with its waters. The objects found during the archaeological excavations made in the cave in 1992 proved that this was the northernmost point inhabited by primitive men in Britain.
The cave itself has a chain of galleries, some of them still accessible, some collapsed. The waters of Allt Smoo River flow down into a 24-meter deep canyon inside one of the galleries. The stream can be crossed via a bridge so visitors can enjoy the impressive view of the underground waterfall from a deck across it.
The villages of Durness and Balnakeil are located near Smoo Cave. The visitors can observe the wild animals living in the region and enjoy its beautiful landscape.
