Manchester

Manchester is located in Western England and it is the main city of the Greater Manchester Metropolitan County. Manchester is the third largest city in England after London and Birmingham. The area of modern Manchester was colonized by the Romans in 79 AD and Gnaeus Julius Agricola built the Mamucium fortification. Historical documents from 1282 mention that the town had a market. It was a small wool traders’ settlement until the beginning of 18th century.
The rise of Manchester’s development came in 19th century with the huge growth of the textile production as part of the Industrial Revolution. Splendid civic buildings in the central area and hundreds of factories around the city were designed and constructed during this period. One the finest examples is the building of the Manchester City Council designed in Neo-Gothic style.
Piccadilly Gardens similar to Piccadilly Circus in London is in the heart of Manchester. It is a perfect combination between a square and a small park and has turned into a preferred meeting spot in the city. A proper Manchester tour could not be completed without visiting the former industrial districts. Two of the museums worth visiting too are the Science and Industry Museum and the Imperial War Museum North (IWM North). The visitors of IWM North can see a multimedia show dedicated to the Second World War every 20 minutes. An exotic addition to a full sightseeing tour of Manchester would be Chinatown and the Manchester Buddhist Centre in it.
