The Fingal's Cave is located on the small island of Staffa, near the west coastline of Scotland. The Fingal's Cave was formed after the cooling of basalt lava. The cave is 20-meter high and 69 meters deep. There are six hundred basalt columns that form an unusual ‘stone forest’ where some of the ‘trees’ reach 11 meters of height. The sound of the splashing waves gives a feeling of being in a natural concert hall. The first explorer of the cave was Sir Joseph Banks. He introduced it to the world in 1772 and rightfully said that the manmade cathedrals and castles are nothing compared to this wonder of nature.
