The Moors built fortress walls in the 10th century with the purpose to protect the most picturesque town in the lower part of Aragon - Albarracin. The city of Albarracin occupies the lands of the arid Sierra de Albarracín and overlooks the Guadalaviar River. Albarracín is among the cities of Spain that have been declared for monuments of national culture.
The appearance of the city of Albarracin is created by the ruined ramparts with towers, the cobbled medieval streets winding past pink houses with wooden beams, projecting balconies and tiled roofs, as well as the many restored monuments. One of the sights of the Albarracin is the cathedral, which is reached through an arched passage. In Albarracin's cathedral museum, Flemish tapestries from the 16th century can be seen today, as well as a beautiful ecclesiastical vessel.
Albarracin isn't just beautiful on the inside. The city of Albarracin is surrounded by pine forests on the outside, and the famous rock paintings can be seen 5 km southeast of it.
