National Art Museum of Catalunya - MNAC, Barcelona

The National Art Museum of Catalunya - MNAC is housed in the former Palau Nacional at the foot of Montjuic and is considered the best art museum in Barcelona. It houses a huge collection of medieval art dating from the Romanesque and Gothic periods. Many of the frescoes were collected by Roman churches from the surrounding villages. Fortunately, these murals were collected before the churches were subjected to large-scale attacks by the population, angered by the political decision to bring the churches in line with Madrid.
