Betanzos is a delightful historic town located 25 km from A Coruña, one of the seven historic capitals of the Kingdom of Galicia. This picturesque name takes us back in history and has a lot to tell. Betanzos is one of the few traditional towns in Galicia, painted with the magic of energizing foreign tourists with a dynamic impact. Firstly, it is attractive and easily accessible, secondly it is a city with a lot of programs and offers for its visitors, especially for those whose interests are the medieval areas, the huge churches, the ancient gates of the city, the festivals and holidays and the ingeniously made model of Galicia.
A little history around the city - in the 16th century, the foresight and perseverance of its inhabitants, applied in the field of trade, managed to develop the city and even earn it the nickname Spanish Genoa. Thanks to the wealth amassed by their commercial acumen, many buildings were erected in Betanzos and many medieval streets were built that can still be seen today. From those times until today, there are also two interesting Gothic buildings - the churches of Santa Maria del Asoge and San Francisco. They contain graves in wall niches.
Among the most notable is the tomb of the powerful city ruler and church founder Count Fernán Pérez de Andrade. Like most cities in Galicia, Betanzos is a city located on two rivers – Rio Mendo and Rio Mandeo. In one of the festivities in Betanzos, many decorated boats are attracted, forming the so-called colorful flotilla. As soon as one steps into the city, a gallery of civil architecture unfolds before the visitor's eyes, with the old town's white facades and red roofs contrasting with the hilly landscape behind them.
